Sunday, February 25th Meeting at Moto Liberty

Wow, it’s going to be hard to beat our February meeting at Moto Liberty!

The wonderful Audrey and her team exceeded even their usual high standards and pulled out all the stops for us. As well as her signature Italian beef dish, and other goodies, Audrey set us up with delicious breakfast casseroles - shrimp and grits plus sausage and potatoes. They were provided by one of Audrey’s customers who recently opened the “Eggs Up Grill” on Trinity Mills Road in Dallas (not far from Moto Liberty). Audrey also provided a selection of tee shirts and caps for us to give to folks buying tickets for the raffle bike.

The weather was perfect, and this no doubt helped us attract more than 70 (yes, that’s seventy, folks) motorcycles to the meeting, and around 80 attendees. A fantastic turn out!

Chris led the meeting, and opened with a big thank you to Audrey and the Moto Liberty team, and a shout out to the Eggs Up Grill. With the large attendance, Chris skipped introducing guests and went straight to new members. Doug Phillips introduced himself, and others wanted to sign up as members during the meeting.

Chris mentioned that the memorial service for Mike Fairchild will be on Saturday March 16, 2024, with viewing at 10:00 am, and a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 11:00 am. The location was not known at the meeting, but it will be at Moore Funeral home in Arlington, Texas.

We switched to new business and talked about the upcoming annual Hill Country trip on April 16-21. Itinerary as follows:
• Tuesday April 16 - Peachtree Inn, Fredericksburg, TX
• Wednesday April 17 - Historic Rocksprings Hotel, Rocksprings, TX
• Thursday-Saturday April 18/19/20 - The Historic Leakey Inn, Leakey, TX

Communicate with Richard Bowman regarding room assignments, at bowman@ntnoa.org. Richard reminded everyone that they had until Feb 29, 2024 to re-book the rooms they had last year. Rooms will now be given to others on the waiting list.

Richard Asprey took the floor for a few minutes to tell everyone about the Epic Ride which will depart from the Yellow Rose Canyon on Monday October 7th, immediately following the LOP Rallye. The ride will be to Barber Motorsports Museum for the Barber Vintage Festival. Richard has secured a prime location for us on “Norton Hill”. The ride will have two overnight stops before arriving at Trussville (close to the Barber location) where the riders will stay during the festival. The epic ride is for vintage motorcycles (pre 1983), and preferably Nortons for this trip. Those riding will fly back from Birmingham, AL, and Alton will transport everyone’s motorcycle back to the DFW area. Note that if motorcycles break down, they will be taken to the next stop, but from that point, riders will need to make their own arrangements to transport their machine. Contact Richard Asprey via ntnoa@ntnoa.org if you wish to participate.

Chris reviewed upcoming events where help will be needed from the club members:
1. Saturday, April 21: The All British & European Car Day (“ABCDE”) at the Bath House at White Rock Lake in Dallas is at the same time as the Hill Country ride. Chris asked for volunteers (who are not going to the Hill Country) to take and show their British/European motorcycles, and to take the Norton raffle bike and sell tickets. The raffle bike is currently stored at Big D Cycle. Anyone helping out will be rewarded with free raffle tickets.

Volunteers so far:
• Penny and Paul Martin
• Mark Dunn
• Gary Brooks

2. Saturday April 27: Flat Track Racing at Texas Motor Speedway. Al Lamb, owner of Dallas Honda, and a big supporter of the NTNOA, will be attending with his American Honda Flat Track team, and as sponsor of Al Lamb’s Dallas Honda Challenge (click here to see the article). Al has secured a location for the club to sell raffle tickets. We need volunteers to manage the ticket sales. Those helping will be given free entry to the event. Richard Asprey will take care of moving the bike etc. for this event.

Volunteers so far:
• Penny and Paul Martin
• Robert Martin

3. We have plans to take the raffle bike to different dealers around the Metroplex who are friends of the club, and who have kindly agreed to have the bike on their showroom floors. Thanks again to Moto Liberty who currently have the bike (we left it there following the meeting). We need volunteers to move the bike between dealers every two-three weeks. Participants will include Al Lamb’s Dallas Honda and Southwest Superbikes.
Volunteers so far:
• Gary Brooks
• Mark Dunn

Thanks to those who have volunteered, but more volunteers are needed for all three events. Please email ntnoa@ntnoa.org with updates. Your club needs your help!!.

Other business:
Stanley Miller told us about the Cherokee Chapter of the AMCA’s 40th anniversary road run. May 21-23, 2024, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Several club members have bikes for sale. Take a look at the classifieds on ntnoa.org/classifieds for more information.

Richard Bowman asked for input on better alternatives to Evite for managing club events where we need more exact numbers. Thanks to those who made suggestions. Please send any more suggestions to ntnoa@ntnoa.org.

Congratulations to Kent Ramsey who was the lucky winner of the 50/50!

The March Club Meeting and Swap Meet is at Big D Cycle on Sunday, March 31st. If you want sell items at the swap meet, please send an email to swap@ntnoa.org. Bring your own table and chairs. Preference will be given to members if the swap meet is over-subscribed.
