January 2023 Meeting on Sunday, January 29th at Pappas BBQ
by Richard Bowman

The Club got 2023 rolling with an entertaining and productive meeting at Pappas BBQ. Despite the cold weather and significant threat of rain, over 50 (53 to be exact) members and guests participated. The weather definitely reduced the number of riders, but a big shout-out to the 17 hardy souls who rode their machines to the event.

Pappas had plenty of room for us indoors, and everyone enjoyed catching up with their old friends and meeting new ones over a barbecue lunch.

Our new President for 2023, Chris Parry, started the meeting by welcoming us and thanking our hosts, Pappas BBQ. New members and guests were introduced and a number of important updates followed:

• We were asked to keep Jay Pope and Jon Neuman in our thoughts and prayers as they each deal with health issues. Chris mentioned that our March meeting has been changed to be in conjunction with a benefit auction of items from Jon’s business (Sagebrush Cycles) and also his personal collection. The auction and meeting will be at CrashedToys on Sunday, March 26. The address is 7777 John W Carpenter Freeway, Dallas, TX 75247.

• Chris shared an update from Richard Asprey at the Mecum Auction in Las Vegas. Bottom line, prices for Pacific Rim machines were way up. For example, a 1973 Kawasaki Z1 900 sold for $50,000!

• A calendar for the year’s meetings and events has been drafted by the Exec Committee. It will be published soon on this website.

• LOP Rallye this year will not be at Diamond Don’s in Jefferson. Pending final confirmation, we are planning to hold the event at the Yellow Rose Canyon RV Resort on Sep 29 – Oct 1.

• Chris ran through several rides which have been discussed for 2023. For the rides to take place, we will need volunteers to step up as ride captains. They will organize the rides and can plan the ride dates to suit their schedule. Please reach out if you’re interested.

          o Sugar Ridge Winery
o Horny Toad Saloon near Waco
o Meunster via Greenwood Grocery store (for ice cream)
o Talimena for a possible overnight trip

• The annual Leakey Hill Country trip is coming up on April 20-23. Chris requested a volunteer to manage the room/cabin bookings. It will either be Mike Mediterraneo or Cathy Ramsey.

• The next club meeting will be on Sunday, February 26 at Eurosport in Fort Worth.

Stanley Miller announced that the Cherokee Chapter of the AMCA is hosting The Texas Fandango at the Gillespie County Fairground in Fredericksburg the weekend of March 31-April 2. The Texas Fandango is a vintage swap meet, vintage bike show, with vintage races all rolled into one. Members of the Cherokee Chapter will also be staying in Kerrville for a few days afterwards and NTNOA members are invited.

Randy Bauer won the 50/50!
