My First Bike by Richard Cross

1954 BSA GoldStar, 500 single. As new, complete with owner's book.....no kick starter, just run-and-bump. At 13:1 compression, kicking would be an effort in futility...not to mention destroying your right foot ! Magneto ignition, tall, skinny 6volt battery for lights only and a tach but no speedometer...
I was taught how to replace a head gasket (ask me about the BSA shop secret) and set valves from a local wino.... $250 in 1965. $500 when sold in 1969 when I got drafted.... Hope it is still on the road!!
