Sunday, April 28 Meeting at the Little House
Our April meeting was held at Richard Asprey’s
“Little House”. For anyone with any interest in motorcycles, the
Little House is a very special place, and always a pleasure to
visit. Richard organized an excellent lunch, cooked on-site by
Fireova Pizza in their mobile pizza oven.
At 2pm, Richard Bowman (R2), Club VP, led the club business and
announcements portion of the meeting. We opened with a big thank you
to our host, Richard Asprey, and to Fireova Pizza for the top-notch
catering.
After introducing guests and new members, R2 talked about the annual
Hill Country ride which took place a week before the meeting. As
always, we enjoyed riding our lighter-weight vintage bikes on the
amazing roads around Leakey, TX. Our “sister club” - the BMOA from
Houston, was in Leakey at the same time, and we had a joint party on
the Saturday night at the Leakey Inn. The weather wasn’t kind, but
we had a good time and enjoyed the catered BBQ organized by the
BMOA. Those who stayed partying long enough were rewarded with clear
skies when the storm passed.
R2 talked about the club presence at the Texas Motor Speedway Flat
Track racing on the day before the meeting. It was a successful
fundraising event with a good number of raffle tickets sold. R2
thanked the volunteers who helped with the bike set up and ticket
sales. This was a good example of how vital volunteers are in order
to make club events happen. Remember that the club cannot function
without volunteers, so please help out whenever you can. It’s also a
great way to get to meet your fellow club members.
Regarding future events, work has started with organizing the 2024,
40th Anniversary LOP Rallye. It will be at the Yellow Rose Canyon
(same as last year). The dates are October 4/5/6. Mark your
calendars and plan on bringing your vintage motorcycle to exhibit in
the bike show.
Richard Asprey took the floor for a few minutes to remind us about
the Epic Ride which will depart from the Yellow Rose Canyon on
Monday October 7, immediately following the LOP Rallye. The ride
will be to Barber Motorsports Museum for the Barber Vintage
Festival. Richard has secured a prime location for us on “Norton
Hill”. The ride will have three overnight stops before arriving at
Trussville (close to the Barber location) where the riders will stay
during the festival. The Epic Ride is for vintage motorcycles
(pre-1983), and preferably Nortons for this trip. Those riding will
fly back from Birmingham, AL, and Alton will transport everyone’s
motorcycle back to the DFW area. Note that if motorcycles break
down, they will be taken to the next stop, but from that point,
riders will need to make their own arrangements to transport their
machine. Contact Richard Asprey via
ntnoa@ntnoa.org if you wish to participate.
Congratulations to the lucky winner of the 50/50 ($209). I can’t
remember who actually won it (which is what happens when you host
the meeting and also do the minutes!). I’ll be looking for a
volunteer scribe if I’m in that situation again.
The next club meeting will be a Bike Show at the Back Nine Bar and
Grill in Addison, TX on Sunday, May 26.
