Our dear friend Ernie Maynard passed away Sunday
morning, 16 January, 2005 at his home in Oak Grove. Ernie and his
wife, Leslie went to church service in the morning. Ernie went home after the service while Leslie remained
at the church. Once home Ernie called 911 but by the
time the paramedics arrived he had passed away.
Ernie was a life long motorcycle enthusiast and one
of Peckerhead Motorcycle Racing's founding members starting back in
the 80's. He was also a long time member and former President of the NTNOA and attended
many of its rallies. Riding was always something very special with Big
Ern. He enjoyed riding so much he wanted all his friends to
experience the same sense of freedom and excitement he always did.
Ernie's Memorial Service was Thursday, 20 January at 5:00 PM at the Oak Grove United
Methodist Church. Ernie was a staunch supporter of the church
and was a mentor for many of the Church's children. Big Ern would
often conduct "Children's Time" on Sundays.

Pastor Martha Myre gave
the Service and aided by her in-depth knowledge and understanding of our
friend gave a superb Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving for the life
of Big Ern. As was Ernie - the Service was special.
As Ernie often said, "Life is not a journey to the grave with the
intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body; but
rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and
loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a Ride!'"

"On January 16, 2005 we all lost a brother.
Some of us were lucky enough to have known him."
