The
January 2024 Meeting was on Sunday, January 28 at Pappas BBQ
We got 2024 off to a great start at Pappas BBQ. We
had fine weather with sunny blue skies, which was perfect for
riding, and there were 36 motorcycles in the parking lot. There were
over 50 people attending the meeting and everyone enjoyed the great
selection of vintage and modern machines.
All three 2023 club officers have renewed for 2024, and they were in
attendance at the meeting.
Chris Parry, President
Jane West, Treasurer
Richard Bowman, VP and Rallye Chairman.
President Chris opened the meeting by thanking our hosts, Pappas
BBQ, and introducing new members and guests. We welcomed new member
Aleix Pomar, who rode on his BMW K1600.
Chris asked us to keep long-standing club member Mike Fairchild and
his family in our thoughts. Mike sadly passed away in December as a
result of a road traffic accident (not motorcycle related). Mike
hosted meetings many times and will be sadly missed. Chris also
reminded us that it was one year ago, on his way home from the
January 2023 club meeting, that we lost member Lance McGehee in a
motorcycle accident. We were grateful that Lance’s brother, Donovan,
joined us for this meeting to help us remember Lance. Chris reminded
all of us to be extra careful on the roads.
We switched to new business and talked about the upcoming annual
Hill Country trip on April 19-21. We will be staying at the Historic
Leakey Inn, as usual, and Cathy Ramsey has kindly agreed to
coordinate cabin assignments. Cathy asked for cabin requests via
email only. Send requests to ntnoa@ntnoa.org which will be forwarded
on to Cathy.
The Hill Country trip is the same weekend as the All British &
European Car Day (“ABCDE”) at the Bath House at White Rock Lake in
Dallas. Chris asked for volunteers (who are not going to the Hill
Country) to take and show their British/European motorcycles, and to
take the Norton raffle bike and sell tickets. The raffle bike is
currently stored at Big D Cycle. Anyone helping out will be rewarded
with free raffle tickets. Contact Chris, Jane, or Richard Bowman if
you can help, or email
ntnoa@ntnoa.org.
We have plans to take the raffle bike to different dealers around
the Metroplex who are friends of the club, and who have kindly
agreed to have the bike on their showroom floors for two week
periods. We’ll have a QR code on display with the bike for people to
buy tickets online. We really need volunteers to deliver the bike to
the dealers. Please step up if you can – the bike raffle is a
significant source of revenue for your club, and we need your help!
The LOP Rallye will be on October 4/5/6 in the same location as last
year – Yellow Rose Canyon. This will be a milestone event – the
club’s 40th anniversary rallye. By the way, Chris was able to report
that the 2023 rallye did not lose money! In the past the rallyes
have typically cost the club money and we were determined to break
even or make a profit for the club last year. Chris thanked Jane
West and Richard Bowman for their focus on the bottom line.
Several club members have bikes for sale – take a look at the
classifieds on
ntnoa.org/classifieds.htm for more information.
Upcoming events were discussed:
• Ride for the Cure will be in February. Contact Russ Foster for
information.
• Stanley Miller told us about the Cherokee Chapter of the AMCA’s
40th anniversary road run. May 21-23, 2024, in Eureka Springs,
Arkansas.
• Jay Tynes announced an upcoming trip to Japan in May for vintage
British motorcycle racing. Location about 60 miles north of Tokyo.
Contact Jay for more information.
Congratulations to Stanley Miller who was the lucky winner of the
50/50.
The next club meeting will be on Sunday, February 25 at Moto Liberty
in Addison, TX.
