NTNOA January Meeting
– 1/26/25 (Pappa’s BBQ)
By Penny Martin
Richard
Bowman began the meeting by announcing that this was going to be his
first meeting as our supreme leader!
Thanks to Pappa’s BBQ for hosting our first meeting of the year once
again.
We began the meeting by recognizing the passing of Hank’s wife, Arlene.
She passed away suddenly. Hank will be donating his 2009 Moto Guzzi for
our bike raffle in memory of Arlene.
Richard thanked the 54 members that responded to his survey. We will
need volunteers to move the raffle bike from venue to venue during the
year as well as taking tables and chairs to meetings at member location
and other sites.
The 2025 calendar has been planned, however, the location for the
Christmas party still needs to be finalized. The decision had been made
to move LOP one week later to avoid a conflict with the Barber Vintage
Festival which is now one week earlier. The new dates for LOP are
Thursday, October 9th through Sunday, October 12th. This means that the
Barber festival is the weekend before, and Born Free is the weekend
after.
The Hill Country Ride is set for April 10th through April 13th. The
dates were adjusted to avoid Easter weekend. Fandango in Fredericksburg
is the weekend before the Hill Country Ride.
Mark Peterson announced that he had purchased a collection of 68 vintage
bikes. The Martins bought a 1970 Triumph TR6C Trophy, but there are many
bikes left to choose from. Please come to Southwest Superbikes to view
the collection, and you might find something you want. Special pricing
will be available for members.
Patrick de Zeeuw shared a story about Clinton’s triple (T150) which
Patrick recently acquired. The new owner thought that the bike sounded
great but realized it was only running on two cylinders! Once the issue
was fixed, that bike ran like “shit off a wet shovel”!!
Jay Tynes has a 1965 Honda Cub T20SS for sale. Paint is original, and it
is sitting in his living room. He is offering it for $1600.
Several members rode to the meeting even though the weather was not
ideal, but R2 was the only rider to arrive on a vintage bike!
Russ gave us a review of the Bob Dylan movie, “A Complete Unknown” and
rated it a “C”. He mentioned the 1964 Triumph Tiger T100 the actor rode
in the movie remarking that the movie was based from 1961 to 1963 and
couldn’t possibly have been the one Bob actually rode. Additionally, the
bike mysteriously started by itself! Jay Tynes mentioned that a friend
of his had actually built the two bikes that were in the film.
It was announced that members were invited to the Dubliner at 4pm to
celebrate Jason Small’s birthday.
Bill Felton asked if any members had ever participated in the Motorcycle
Tour of Texas. The tour consists of 50 different locations that riders
go to and take a picture at the site. Pictures are submitted to the
website and points are collected for each location. The minimum number
of sites to visit in order to get a patch is 25. The locations are
scattered throughout the state of Texas.
The 50-50 was $226 and won by Dale Frenzel.
Our next meeting will be on Sunday, February 23rd at Jody McClure’s home
in Forney, TX.
