2024 Sunday, July 28 Meeting
at Al Lamb’s Dallas Honda
Our July 2024 meeting
was hosted by Al Lamb at his motorcycle dealership,
Al Lamb’s Dallas Honda.
Al is a great friend of the NTNOA, and he took good care of us,
including providing plenty of excellent pizza! The venue was perfect
for a July meeting in Dallas because we were all inside, enjoying
the air-conditioned comfort. We had 35 motorcycles parked outside
which was impressive, given the hot weather. About 50 people
attended in total.
At 2pm Chris Parry, our club president, led the business and
announcements portion of the meeting. Chris opened with a big thank
you to Al Lamb for hosting us, and for providing the pizza lunch.
Chris also thanked Al for having our 2024 raffle bike (a beautiful
1974 MkII Norton Commando) in his dealership for the past few weeks
where people could see the bike and
buy tickets on-line. Note that we moved the Norton after the
meeting, and it’s now installed in
Eurosport Cycle in Fort
Worth.
Chris asked if any guests were in attendance, and three people
introduced themselves. It’s always a pleasure to welcome new people
to our club meetings!
Chris reminded us about the upcoming 40th anniversary Land of the
Pines (LOP) Rallye on October 4/5/6. Folks can register for the
rally and reserve an RV
site on-line. You should be preparing your vintage machines for
the bike show. Bike show categories have been defined and are
posted here.
Jane, our treasurer, brought rallye flyers to the meeting, and Chris
asked members to take some and drop them off at motorcycle-related
businesses. He also reminded people that we’ll need door prizes to
give out at the LOP, and asked members to ask motorcycle-related
businesses to help out with donating appropriate items. We ask that
the items are not used or damaged.
Richard Asprey took the floor for a few minutes to remind us about
the Epic Ride which will depart from the Yellow Rose Canyon on
Monday October 7, immediately following the LOP Rallye. The ride
will be to Barber Motorsports Museum for the Barber Vintage
Festival. Richard has secured a prime location for us on “Norton
Hill”. The ride will have three overnight stops before arriving at
Trussville (close to the Barber location) where the riders will stay
during the festival. The stops will be:
1. Leesville, LA
2. Brookhaven, MS
3. Thomasville, AL
4. Trussville, AL
The Epic Ride is for vintage motorcycles (pre-1983), and preferably
Nortons for this trip. Richard is working on finding a storage
location near Barber so that Alton can trailer machines back to the
DFW area, making several trips if needed. Note that if motorcycles
break down, they will be taken to the next stop, but from that point
on, riders will need to make their own arrangements to transport
their machines. Contact Richard Asprey via
ntnoa@ntnoa.org if you wish to
participate.
Chris Parry and Richard Bowman talked about their recent
motorcycling adventure in India, through the Himalayas. It was an
amazing experience for all involved, with a combination of
challenging off-road riding, spectacular scenery, and very high
altitudes, topping out at close to 18,000 ft. If anyone would like
more information, feel free to ask Chris or Richard at a future
meeting.
Al Lamb gave us an overview of his recent adventures at the Isle of
Man TT, and the Goodwood Festival of Speed near Chichester, England.
Al shared a lot about his experiences in more detail than can be
conveyed here, but suffice to say that he had some amazing company
at the black tie dinner, including Kenny Roberts Sr, Kenny Roberts
Jr, Casey Stoner, Mick Doohan, Giacomo Agostini and Michael Dunlop!
Members have some projects underway, including Jody McClure’s 1967
Triumph Chopper, Jeff Myers’ 1976 Triumph and Chris Parry’s 1973
Norton Commando.
Jane reminded everyone that membership fees are due in August. They
can be renewed on-line via the
NTNOA.org website.
Congratulations to Paul Martin, our lucky 50/50 winner!
Next month’s meeting
is on Sunday, August 25, at
Ford’s Garage
in Plano.
