Captain Commando, aka Phil Dansby, hosted our September club meeting in style. The Captain provided cold beverages along with hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad and coleslaw and all the trimmings.
The weather was perfect and about 30 members took advantage and rode to the meeting. Check out these pictures taken by Paul Valentine.
We had thirteen members renew their membership and seven members pre-registered for the Lake O' the Pines Rally. This was the last opportunity for renewals. Those who have not renewed will be taken off the membership list as soon as our Treasurer has a chance to update it. Those who renewed at the meeting were Dave Howe, Mike Vance, Jay McCurry, Daniel Peirce, David Bradford, Randy Bauer, Justin Bauer, John Montgomery, Bruce Davidson, John Scott, Chris Parry, Jon Duff and Jim Bagnard.
Clay Walley called the meeting to order at 2PM and gave a summary of old business. Dennis Tackett discussed the changes to the Rally this year and asked for volunteers to help out with the field events. Dennis handed out a copy of the schedule of events for Saturday which will be a very busy day. The bike show registration and voting has been moved up a couple of hours to accommodate the additional field events in the afternoon prior to the Awards Ceremony. Dennis also rode the raffle bike, a Norton Combat Commando around the block and sold raffle tickets. He reminded everyone that Sam Wheeler, the current fastest man on two wheels (355mph) and builder/rider of the world’s fastest Norton (208mph), is the Grand Marshal. Sam will narrate his account of building and racing this amazing machine for the 1970 record on Saturday at 5:00PM just before the Awards Ceremony.
New business included the need for volunteers to man the club's booth at Cycle World's International Motorcycle Show in November at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Triumph will be our featured marque this year. We were given a 10' by 60' space (the same as last year) to display our bikes. Everyone who volunteers will be given a free pass to the show. Click here for the list of volunteers and time slots available.
